Zásady pro vypracování
The student will undertake a study of the transcendental philosophy of Ralph Waldo Emerson, especially "Self-Reliance" and "The American Scholar" and then pursue a study of selected writings of two of his most famous followers, Henry David Thoreau and Margaret Fuller. Thoreau, a naturalist and political theorist of social protest (particularly regarding slavery and unjust war), and Margaret Fuller, a feminist and spiritualist, wrote significant books which put into concrete practice those transcendental foundations established by Emerson. In the 19th century their writings were regarded as radical, but the student will link the general trends imagined by the tame Emerson as pursued by Thoreau and Fuller.
