Informace o kvalifikační práci Seasonal occurrence of picoplanktonic cyanobacteria
in water treatment plant Milence and their application in
nanobiotechnology
This bachelor thesis deals with freshwater picocyanobacteria. The first part of it is focused on the occurrence of picocyanobacteria in the water reservoir Nýrsko and their penetration into the individual stages of technological treatment of drinking water in the water treatment plant Milence. The filter separation efficiency of picocyanobacteria in dependency on filter operational time and subsequently, the possible variants of optimalization or addition to the technological process for separation of picocyanobacteria from treated water are presented. The second part of this bachelor thesis deals with the use of picocyanobacteria in nanobiotechnology. It consists of pilot experiments with application of picocyanobacteria in addition with microwave synthesized magnetite for the nanobiotechnological application - sorption of the industrial dyes from water. For the preliminary tests, cultures of picocyanobacteria from the collections of the Hydrobiological institute of the Biology Centre
of the Czech Academy of Sciences were tested. The continuous experiments were performed using a picocyanobacterial culture from the water reservoir Nýrsko. As the model pollutants the industrial dyes, Malachite green, Methylene blue, Rhodamine B, Crystal violet, were utilized.

Záznam průběhu obhajoby
The head of the commission Prof Vácha welcomed the student Ms Sochorová, members of the committee, and guests. All committee members were present except David Kaftan.
The student presented the theoretical background on picocyanbacteria, toxins produced by these bacteria, drinking water parameters, the two parts of the thesis, methods used in both parts, and results.
The supervisor and the opponent presented their reviews and the student answered the questions and comments and further discussed various topics with the opponent.
Discussion with the commission members followed on the filter types used, the effectivity of filtration, the presence of pycocyanobacteria in various water sources, the way to remove them after using them as a sorbent, the checking of drinking waters for picocyanobacteria and toxins, the possibilities of toxins and ways to detect. The student answered all questions.
