Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Demonstration, Excursion
  • Class attendance - 36 hours per semester
  • Field trip - 8 hours per semester
  • Semestral paper - 20 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 40 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Involve students in active observation and understanding of geological phenomena and processes, including the application of this observation in biological disciplines.
Graduate will be able after successful completion: - identify the most abundant rocks and minerals, including their genesis and basic physical and chemical properties, - recognize the basic groups of fossils and classify them in time - understand the basics of the theory of plate tectonics and describe the paleogeographic development of continents and oceans - describe the development of life on Earth and connect it with the main chronostratigraphic units - be able to recognize the main geomorphological landforms and their genesis - basically orientate in geological maps and actively use them for their own research - basic orientation in regional-geological units of the Czech Republic - know the basic dating methods and possibilities of their applications in research.
Prerequisites
The course assumes knowledge at the level of secondary school.
