Course content
|
Content of lectures: Content of practices: Basic instruments and techniques for sampling of water, zooplankton, and phytoplankton along a water column profile and sediments for chemical analyses and benthos. Measurements and evaluation of temperature, oxygen, and phosphorus stratification in deep reservoirs. Laboratory techniques include: (1) chemical methods (pH, alkalinity, phosphorus, dissolved oxygen, calcium and magnesium, chemical oxygen demand), (2) biological methods (phytoplankton counting and biovolumes, chlorophyll-a, zooplankton fractionation and biomass, biological oxygen demand, benthos separation, bacterial counts).

Learning outcomes
|
The aim is to introduce and practice common limnological (physical, chemical, and biological) methods. The practical is focused on field techniques of water, sediment, and plankton sampling and laboratory methods of basic chemical and biological analyses.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Combined exam
Presence at all practical demonstrations of individual methods, knowledge of their theoretical principles, correct preparation of laboratory protocols.
