Course content
1) Geoscience (a) geology (rocks, landscape effects), (b) topography, zonation, relief, (c) raw material base, non-renewable energy resources 2) Geoscience (d) climate, weather and climate, (e) hydrological conditions, (f) renewable energy sources, (g) climate change, natural hazards. 3) Living nature: soil - soil formation process ~ rocks, relief, climate and vegetation. Edaphon. 4) Climate zonation - effect on soils and vegetation. Altitudinal gradients. 5) Landscape typology - natural landscapes. Vegetation cover, habitats. 6) Cultural landscapes - influence of farming, evolution of land cover and land use. Landscape protection. 7) Historical-geographical development of the Czech lands, public administration and its territorial development - territorial administrative division. 8) Population of the Czech Republic and settlement structure. 9) Economy and its transformation after 1990 - primary, secondary, transport sectors. 10) Economy of the Czech Republic - trade, services, tourism, quaternary sector. 11) Regional policy and regional development, the Czech Republic in the international context. 12) Socio-economic regionalisation of the Czech Republic, specifics of important economic areas. Content of tutorials: A semester-long project - students will prepare to teach regional geography for particular chosen regions. Each region will be analysed in the following structure, following the so-called individual "floors" of the landscape: (a) geological, geomorphological and hydrological regions (1st floor) (b) soil and vegetation character (2nd tier) (c) land cover and land use, landscape character (3rd tier) (d) natural and cultural heritage of the region (e) environment (risks, pollution, adaptation to climate change) socio-economic structure of the region: (f) population (development, demographic structure, economic activity) (g) the region's transport services (h) economic activities in the region (development, structure, link to natural conditions) (i) services, amenities (j) tourism (attractions, impact on the environment, development potential) (k) SWOT analysis, position of regions in the regional system of the Czech Republic.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to learn the geography of the Czech Republic. The course builds on the regional context of the previous separate courses in both physical and socio-economic geography, repeats and synthesizes the curriculum of these subjects and applies knowledge at the regional level of Central Europe. The main content of the practicals is a semester-long project, the content of which is an analysis of the chosen area in the form of teaching material - a combination of specialist topics with didactic treatment of the topic according to the regional division.

Prerequisites
Fundamentals of physical and socio-economic geography, cartography and GIS.

Assessment methods and criteria
Essay, Colloquium

Credit awarded for the continuous completion of the semester-long project in the required time and quality. The project must be defended in the form of a presentation. Final combined exam on the topics covered - written test containing questions on terminology and factual information used (min. 50% correct for access to the oral exam) and oral part. The final grade is determined by the combination of the written and oral exams (70% correct to pass).
