Course content |
Content of tutorials/seminar: Within the course, the selected locality will be comprehensively processed in the form of a team project. Students will perform the following tasks under the supervision of supervisors: - Search of current knowledge about the locality of interest; - Field sampling, including measurement of abiotic factors; - Processing of collected samples; - Determination of present cyanobacteria and algae - Assessment of the state of the locality on the basis of found species (diversity indices, water quality indices); - Elaboration of a proposal for site management with regard to interest organisms

Learning activities and teaching methods |
Demonstration, Laboratory, Project-based learning
|
Learning outcomes |
Within the course, students will expand their knowledge and skills in the collection and processing of algae and cyanobacteria samples and in practical determination. At the same time, they will get acquainted with the basic procedures for determining the quality of the environment on the basis of the species present. Based on the obtained data, they will then develop a proposal for the optimal management of the selected site.
Student will learn basic sampling techniques, methods of selection of optimal sampling site for sampling communities of interest, basic methods of water quality assessment based on algal communities, and improves his/her determination skills. |
Prerequisites |
Basic knowledge of algae and Cyanobacteria.
