Course content
|
Lectures: The importance of plants for humans. Genetic resources of plants. Regulation of cultivation of cultivated plants. Plants in CITES. Protection and special protection of plants in the Czech Republic, exemptions from protection. Invasive plants. Plant health aspects of acquisition, possession and provision of plants. Botanical gardens. Plant collections and plant records0. Systems of plant conservation by man - in situ, ex situ, in garden, on farm, . . . . . Species of interest in ex situ plant conservation in the Czech Republic. Summary of acquired knowledge and skills. Tutorials: The exercise involves active participation in a full-day excursion to a selected large botanical garden (e.g. Prague, Brno, Pilsen or Liberec).

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the complex topic of rules for the acquisition, possession and provision of plants and plant material, the cultivation of gene pools ex situ and the organization of botanical gardens.

Credit requirements: - Obtaining at least 60% of the points in the credit test. The subject of the credit is the identification of the species discussed in the course (="cognitive test"). Examination requirements: - The subject of the examination is the knowledge of the subject matter of the course on the basis of lectures/consultations and the required study literature within the given scope. The exam is written. A minimum pass mark of 60% is required to pass the exam. Advanced knowledge of non-productive plant production techniques with emphasis on interest groups.
