Course content
Characteristics of causal agents of plant diseases (viruses, bacteria and fungi) and their trophic strategies, examples of their life cycles. Changes in plant metabolism during the course of disease, expression of symptoms. Effect of environmental conditions on disease development, epidemiology. Mechanisms of plant resistance and their utilisation in practice. Content of practicals: Collection of diseased plant organs in field, processing of samples, methods of cultivation and inoculation, determination of causal agents based on macro- and microscopic characters, additional methods of identification.

Learning outcomes
Introduction to plant pathology: biology and ecology of causal agents of important plant disease, course of plant disease, expression of symptoms, mechanisms of plant resistence, methods of plant protection.
Basic knowledge of plant disease and methods of plant protection. Be able to recognize causal agents of important plant disease. Practical skils in sampling and cultivation of plant pathogens.
