Content of lectures: Introduction - 1 lecture. Demography - population structure; annuals (biennials) vers. perennials; time andspace changes in population structure; life cycles; critical phases of life cycles; life tables; keyfactors; examples of demographic studies - 2 lectures. Reproduction - life strategies; vegetation vers generation reproduction;factors that influence life strategies and reproduction success; phenology; pollination ecology -pollination and fitness; self-incompactibility; offspring; outcrossing rate; naturally rarespecies vers. recently rare species; methodology of pollination ecology - 2lectures. Interactions within and between populations - population growth, self-thinning,competition, coexistence;, mutualism, myccorhizal connections, semiparasitism - 1 lecture. Interaction between plant and insect populations - herbivory; monophagous vers.polyphagous; host and food plants; mutualism - myrmecophyly; pollination vers. pollen robbers etc. - 1lecture. Population genetics - Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, gen flow, genetic drift,migration - theories + reality in populations; small populations; genetic variability of populations;inbreeding and outbreeding depression; genetic variability and fitness; methods of population genetics inecology; data analysis - 3 lectures. Metapopulation - migration; gen flow; subpopulation, fragmentation of habitat - 1 lecture. Plant populations in seminatural habitats - management - a tool of disturbanceand selection; species extinction; rare species and problems of reintroduction of these species - 1lecture. Each lecture has two separates parts. Theoretical principles and terms will be presented during the firstpart of lecture and methodology and examples of field studies will be discussed later. Special attentionwill be paid to population changes in small and isolated populations, ecology of rare plant species, andplant-insect interactions.
