Course content
|
Content of lectures: History and aims of the field; Target communities and ecosystems; Basic ecological principles as the background for successful restoration (theory of succession, metapopulations, species pool, relations between productivity and biodiversity, alien organisms, interactions among organisms, etc.); Methods of designing restoration projects; Examples from different types of ecosystems; Using spontaneous and directed succession in ecosystem restoration. Content of practices: Talks of students their own proposed projects on restoration of damaged ecosystems. One day excursion to a stone quarry, and restored calcareous grasslands.

Learning outcomes
|
To present the state of art of the young field with examples from different parts of the world and the Czech Republic as well, including both theoretical and practical aspects.
Students obtain overview on the present state of the field including practical experience in the field.

Prerequisites
|
No previous courses are required. Basic knowledge in botany, zoology, and ecology is expected.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Interview
Students must present a talk concerning a selected particular problem of restoration ecology, they must present an ability to work with international literature and synthetize relevant information.
