Course content
Content of lectures: At the beginning of the course, students will be introduced to the theoretical concepts of restoration ecology that are important for application in practical ecological restoration. Then, such concepts will be demonstrated directly in the field with particular examples. In the follow-up courses KBO420 and KBO447, the teaching focuses mainly on the demonstration of various methods used for the restoration of (semi-) natural (KBO420) and heavily human-influenced habitats (KBO447) and on the evaluation of limiting factors, restoration success rates and legislative aspects. Content of seminars: The course is designed as a five-day block practicum, which combines lectures (2 half-day blocks) and practical teaching in the form of excursions (3 half-day and 1 full-day) realized in České Budějovice or its surroundings (e.g. university campus, city, Vrbenské rybníky). During the excursions, students will also visit selected restored sites in South Bohemia and try to prepare a small restoration project in small groups (one half-day). The outcome will be a combined exam in the form of a group project (1 day) and an online quiz focused on the theoretical knowledge from the lectures (credit).
