Content of lectures: Insect phylogeny, systematic overview of main taxonomic groups, patterns of habitat utilisation, ecology and conservation. Content of practicals: Overview of research methods, specialised literature and main representatives.

Learning outcomes
|
Diversity and ecology of insects as the most diverse terrestrial animal group. Special emphasis on European representatives, their ecology and conservation. Dicsusses practical conservation approaches and news from conservation research.
The course will provide deep insigh onto ecology and conservation of insects, emphasizing peculiarities of individual orders and ecological groups, and highlighting attractive species of European fauna.

Prerequisites
|
Orientation in zoology at a level of introductory courses, motivation and initiative.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Essay, Student performance assessment, Colloquium, Seminar work
Active participation during field trips and practical activities, cursory knowledge of the lectures, scholarly essay and its active presentation to colleagues, active working with scientific literature.
