Course content
Content of practicals: The course involves presenting and discussing recently published scientific papers (Journal club) bringing new knowledge important for their specific field of research (their laboratory, department). Students will present scientific papers of their choice (after approval by their lecturer). The presentations will be followed by an open discussion among the course participants.

Work with text (with textbook, with book), Activating (simulations, games, drama), Group work
  • Class attendance - 14 hours per semester
  • Preparation for classes - 30 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
This course will allow the students to keep up with important developments in their specific field within ecology. They will learn to present and interpret the results of key novel studies and to discuss how these novel findings advance their field or challenge classical paradigms. The course is recommended mainly for doctoral students of Entomology programme.
The students will keep up with important developments in their specific field within ecology and will learn how to critically interpret and present results of scientific studies.
Prerequisites
General ability of working with scientific literature and basic computer programs (Microsoft Office or similar) is assumed. Students are required to actively use English.

Assessment methods and criteria
Systematic student observation

Regular attendance and active participation (minimal attendance is 75% of the practicals).
