Course content
|
Content of practicals: Preparation of research project. Observational techniques. Hormones, hierarchy and personality. Methods of behavioral data collection. Literature search and funding Statistical analysis of behavioral data Analysis of vocal communication recordings. Telemetry Use of molecular biology methods. Experiments and their design. Publication and prezentation of results.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to introduce methods commonly used in behavioral research of animals and humans. Laboratory as well as field methods are presented. The course is suitable for students with interest in animal/human behavioral research, who woud like to have topic of their diploma thesis related to this field. Other students will benefit from the course by improving their undestanding of results of scientific papers from these areas. The final examination includes preparation of research project by participant and explanation of chosen methods.
The student will understand the basic principles of scientific work. He/She is able to find literature and, on its basis, propose future research questions. He/She is able to design an adequate study design and select appropriate methods. They will acquire the basics of the scientific communication in the form of a presentation, a poster and a written text.

Seminar work
The final examination includes preparation of research project by participant and explanation of chosen methods.
