Course content
Content of practicals: 1. Recognition of representatives of avifauna of ČR in the field according to auditory manifestations, appearance as well as marks of residence. 2. Age and sex determination. 3. Breeding proving. 4. Fundamental methods in quantitative research of avian populations and societies (breeding territories mapping, point and lineage methods, quadrate mapping). 5. Methods used in research of difficultly observable taxa (birds of prey, waterfowl, gallinaceous?). 6. Planning (study area definition, sampling?) and result evaluation (territory definition, time changes analysis?) of quantitative research in avian populations and societies. 7. National and International programs monitoring avian populations and societies.

Learning outcomes
Gain abilities in field ornithological research used in monitoring of avian populations and societies. Be skilled in independent research on fundamental studies for the wants of EIA, administrative proceedings accomplished by conservation authorities. Be able to design, organize and carry out monitoring projects in terms of programs like Natura, Important Bird Areas etc.
The student will be able to conduct the monitoring of birds using various approaches, will be able to identify most of the birds of Czech Republic in the field (acoustic monitoring)

Basic knowledge about the biology, ecology and systematics of birds

Assessment methods and criteria
Test

Project on mapping the territories of a selected bird species, oral exam testing the ability to recognize the voices of birds.
