Course content
Block 1. Basics of administration and security of active elements in general; Basics of Cisco IOS; Port Security, Telnet + SSH security. Session 2. Switch configuration and administration: switch tables; VLAN administration and security (Acess+Trunk); Link aggregation (Etherchannel); Port Mirroring (SPAN); DHCP Snooping; Inter-VLAN Routing. Data Logging and Traffic Classification. Block 3. Fundamentals of Router Administration; Basic breakdown of routing protocols, router roles in networks, router architectures; Addressing in packet networks. Different addressing methods, class addressing, subnetting, VLSM and CIDR and their effect on the way networks find their way; Routing table management. Static routing. Basics of dynamic routing. NAPT address translation and packet firewall (eACL). Gateway redundancy provisioning protocols (VRRP) and link state monitoring. Application of SLAs in network issues.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to learn basic and advanced administration of switches and routers from L1 to L7. Emphasis is placed on open standard technologies for working in a multi-vendor environment.
The student should be able to perform basic administration and configuration of active network components.

Completed Computer Networks I (UAI/699)

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam

Attendance at practicum, home preparation for practicum, participation in "mock" exam in lab, opportunity for test scenarios during exam period in network labs. Examination: correction of the topology according to the assignment within the specified time limit. Detailed information for the given academic year in the respective Moodle course.
