1) LAN Design and Switch functions in Hierarchical Design. 2) Basic Switch Concepts and Configurations - 802.3, MAC Address Table, Switch Forwarding, L2 + L3 Switching, Cline Configuration (Basics, Security, Backup). 3) VLANs - Types, VLAN Port Membership, Broadcast Domains, Trunks, Trunking modes, Configuring and Managing VLANs, T-Shooting. 4) Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) - Redundancy, STP Algorithm (BPDU, Bridge ID, Ports), STP Convergence Process (Election) Designated Ports, Non-Designated Ports, PVST+, RSTP. 5) Inter-VLAN Routing - (Sub)Interfaces, Switch + Router Configuration. 6) VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP) - Basics, Domains, Modes, Pruning, Configuring VTP, T-Shooting. 7) Introduction to WLAN - (Standards (802.11, 802.15, 802.11i); Security - Threads, Protocols, WEP, WPA/WPA2, 802.1x; Topology, SSID, BSSID, BSS, ESS, AP and Client Configuration, T-shooting.

To acquaint students with a basic switch administration, its settings, VLAN, VTP, STP and VLAN routing.
After successful completion of this course, students will have: - Basic setup and management of active network components. - Advanced knowledge of L2 and L3 protocols. - Ability to understand network schemes. - Learn how to create documentation. - Be able to secure the network infrastructure in a basic way.
