Course content
1. TERMINOLOGICAL CONTEXTS OF THE REGIONAL ECONOMY Region, types of regions, regionalism, regional studies. Explanation of basic terms and giving examples - region, types of regions, regionalism, regional studies. Basic residential trends affecting the structure of the regional economy - urbanization, suburbanization, deurbanization, reurbanization. 2. THE REGIONAL ECONOMY AND ITS DIFFERENCES FROM THE NATIONAL ECONOMY The specifics of the regional economy and the possibility of influencing it compared to the coordination of the economy at the national level. The main trends in the formation of the regional level, i.e. divergent vs. convergence within the Czech Republic and the EU. The concept of regional disparity - an explanation as both a risk and a development potential. Typology of regions according to different types of regional disparities. Examples in the EU and the Czech Republic. 3. BASIC REGIONAL ECONOMIC THEORIES AND THEIR DIFFERENCES Keynesian and neoclassical approach. Examples of theories of regional development. Explanation of the concept of economic level and economic strength of regions. Examples of indicators for measurement. Current trends in the Czech Republic and the EU. Economic level vs. Living standards in the regions. 4. REGIONAL POLICY TOOLS - GENERAL DEFINITION AND LINK TO REGIONAL ECONOMY Macroeconomic instruments of regional policy. Microeconomic instruments of regional policy. Institutional instruments of regional policy. 5. SPATIAL ORGANIZATION OF THE ECONOMY AND REGIONAL ECONOMIC STRUCTURE Factors affecting the organization of the economy (internal and external). The influence of the organization of the economy on the economic policy of the state. State policies and regional economy - economic liberalism vs. economic interventionism. 6. DIRECT FOREIGN INVESTMENT IN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Definition of the concept of FDI and its forms. Development of FDI in the Czech Republic from the 1990s to the present. Impacts of FDI on the development of the regions of the Czech Republic, incl. delineation of negative consequences. 7. THE REGIONAL LABOR MARKET AND MIGRATION AS AN ECONOMIC FACTOR AFFECTING REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT The role of human resources in the development of regions (in terms of quantity and qualification). Regional labor markets and related issues. Migration within the state as an economic factor influencing the development of regions. 8. PROBLEMS OF EFFICIENCY AT THE MUNICIPAL/CITY LEVEL (TERRITORIAL FINANCE AS A PART OF PUBLIC FINANCE, SIGNIFICANCE IN THE REGIONAL ECONOMY, PROPERTY AS AN ECONOMIC TOOL) Territorial finance as part of public finances - local and regional financing. Significance in the regional economy - municipal budgets. Property as an economic tool for the development of municipalities and cities. 9. TERRITORIAL PLANNING WITHIN THE TERRITORIAL DEVELOPMENT POLICY OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC, LAND MARKET Spatial planning - definition of the concept and role in local development. Spatial development policy of the Czech Republic - definition and link to spatial planning. Land market in the framework of spatial planning. 10. CURRENT TRENDS OF URBANIZATION AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Definition and explanation of the terms organization, suburbanization, reurbanization and deurbanization and give a specific example in the Czech Republic or abroad.

Learning outcomes
Students will focus on issues related to public administration, the basic aspects relating to the regional economy and its links with public administration. They will demonstrate a basic knowledge of the subjects of Environmental Policy and Environmental Economics.
Students know basic terminology, theoretical principles, and method used in the field of regional economcs. Students are able to apply the acquired knowledge in practice.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

During the exam, students demonstrate knowledge of the regional economy, public management, including its management and key aspects of environmental economics.
