Course content

Themes of lectures: 1. Introduction to the GIT and GIS. History of GIS. Basic terms. 2. Abstraction and modelling in GIS. 3. Vector data. 4. Raster data. 5. Database systems for GIS. Geodatabase. 6. Data for GIS - GPS, remote sensing, LIDAR etc., 7. Geographic location. Data preprocessing. 8. Spatial operations with vector data - overlays, etc., 9. Spatial operations with raster data - map algebra, 10. Thematic mapping in GIS. 11. Modern technologies for GIS. 12. GIS in Public Administration. 13. Web GIS. ArcGIS Online. Seminars: Thematically correspond to lectures - exercises in ArcGIS 10.5, ArcGIS Pro.

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of the course is to assimilate basic skills of work with spatial data, specifics of spatial data, backgrounds of geoinformatics, simple spatial analyses in the GIS environment.
Student knows and understands specifics of spatial data, masters basic operation with this kind of data. Student maters also routine activities in GIS, simple types of spatial analyses, basic principles of data visualisation. Student is also informed with newest information in the geoinformatics and GIS, data sources and actual information.

Prerequisites

Basic indicators of descriptive statistics, basic mathematic and computer skills. Prerequisites: KMI/MINF, KMI/MINFA Manažerská informatika

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Combined exam, Test, Seminar work
Credit: processing of credits exercises in the Moodle e-learning system (at least 60% of the course assignments given in the course - correctly and in the required quality - it is necessary to submit the solution for all assigned tasks) Exam: exam written and oral, minimum for successful completion of written test (test): 60% of the correct answers.
