Course content
1. Introduction - function and significance of operating systems 2. Summary and history of operating systems 3. Microsoft operating systems 4. The UNIX operating system 5. The Linux operating system 6. Scripting languages - WS Hosts - Jscript, VBScript 7. Perl, Python 8. Installation of Linux. 9. Configuration of the WWW and database server 10. Configuration of the file and printing server (Samba) 11. Administration of users in a particular OS 12. Security of OS. OS and corporate environment. 13. Licenses for software

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), E-learning

Learning outcomes
A practically focused course which is aimed at the terminology and administration of the Windows and Linux operating systems that appear in the Czech educational system.
The student acquires a basic idea of the recent elemental operating systems of Windows and Linux. The student will learn how to administrate and adapt these systems and acquire knowledge and abilities for the administration of a corporate network.

The course has no prerequisities.

Assessment methods and criteria
Test, Seminar work

Credit Requirements: Active participation at seminars (80%). Working on short, dated tasks. Passing a written test.
