Politics: the Maastricht Treaty on EU, decisions and goals; 6. Economic and social cohesion, the Structural funds; 7. Travelling in Europe, Schengen Agreement, consular assistance; 8. Shopping in Europe, consumer protection; 9. Living and working abroad, recognition of professional and academic qualifications; 10. Rights and duties of workers, social security; 11. The EU education, training and youth programmes; 12. Young employees, Au pair arrangements; 13. Sources of information about EU 14. Final test

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of the course is mastering English terminology and phraseology used to describe life and institutions in the EU. The course is directed at development of skills in using EU English - Eurospeak, stress is laid upon legal terminology of EU. Students will especially develop language dispositions necessary for exact expressing, skills enabling precise and prompt use of terminology, translation techniques, summary and abstract processing, mastering of syntax of technical text/speech. Two exam tests are included in the course.
Students will obtain abilities and knowledge of exact expressing with the use of language means of Eurospeak.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of secondary school grammar and vocabulary.

Test
Credit Requirements: Obtaining at least 60% in each of two tests.
