Course content
Lectures: 1. Historical evolution of commerce 2. Introduction to the course, notion of commerce, basic notions, classification of the commerce 3. Enterpreneurship in commerce, legal forms, functions of commerce and trade (trading companies) 4. Co-operative trading, social economy. 5. Commercial assortments, classification and identification of goods. 6. Specialization and systemization of operation units, wholesale - terminology and evolution. 7. Retail - terminology and evolution. 8. E-commerce 9. Consumer protection in the commercial sphere. 10. Co-operation in commerce and trade. 11. Economic policy and its impact on commerce. Objectives, tools and bearers of economic policy (EU, CR). 12. European commerce in the context of the world, basic international institutions dealing with commercial problems. 13. World commercial trends, globalization, integration, internationalization, diversification and concentration. Seminars: 1. Introduction to the seminars, main topics, seminary work. 2. Czech commerce in 1990's in the context of European commerce. 3. The role of commerce within a national economy, Czech commerce since 2000. 4. Ethics in business. 5. Corporate Social Responsibility in commerce. 6. The TOP 10 of Czech commerce. 7. Commerce from the point of view of consumer preferences 8. Classification and identification of goods and services. 9. New technologies in commerce. 10. Quality in commercial activities. 11. Consumer protection within commercial activities. 12. Co-operation and co-operative activities within commercial activity. 13. Impacts of internationalization and globalization on commercial activities. 14. Feedback on work in seminars, credits.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to provide a basic look at the evolution of commerce, its development in the context of WTO, the position of commerce and trade in the system of economic sectors, and modern methods of commercial enterprising.
Students have a basic view of evolution and trends in commerce, they are acquainted with the basic terminology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Test

Credit Requirements: Elaboration and presentation of a seminary task on a selected topic. Partial tasks during the seminar. Full attendance. Examination Requirements: Students pass a written test on problems being discussed during the semester and on problems explained in the prescribed literature. A 70% pass-mark in the test is demanded. The test is followed by an oral examination.
