Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. Concept of public administration, division of public administration, public administration and division of power. 2. Regions and regionalization, regional aspects of European integration. 3. Institutional prerequisites of regional development in the Czech Republic. 4. Modernization of central state administration. 5. Reform of territorial public administration and its current problems. 6. Municipalities Act and Law on Regions in the Czech Republic. 7. Political process at municipal and regional level. 8. Public finance, public control, public services. 9. International cooperation of the Czech Republic in public administration. 10. Public administration and regional development, regional development law. 11. Local and regional communities in the European administrative area.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming)
  • Preparation for credit - 28 hours per semester
  • Semestral paper - 42 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 28 hours per semester
  • Preparation for classes - 40 hours per semester
  • Class attendance - 16 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Main objective of the course is to introduce students to the basic problems of public administration and regional development in the Czech Republic. The course is focussing on three key points: 1. public administration reform, 2. formation of institutional basis for regional development, 3. role of public administration in regional development support. Besides, attention will be paid to the interrelation of regional development and European integration process.

Oral examination, Test, Seminar work

Credit Requirements: Seminary work. Examination Requirements: Knowledge of the substance within the scope of this syllabus - written and oral exam.
