Course content
Lectures: 1 - European integration and the creation of the European Community; 2 - organizational structure of the European Community and the European Union I.; 3 - the organizational structure of the European Community and the European Unio II.; 4 - the legal system - sources of law and rule-making; 5 - the application of Community law; 6 - the basics of Community, Internal Market I.; 7 - the basics of Community, Internal Market II.; 8 - Competition; 9 - Economic and Monetary Union; 10 - Consumer protection; 11 - Maastricht Treaty; 12 - Common Foreig and Security Policy of the EU (former second pillar of the EU), Police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters (former third pillar of the EU); 13 - further development of the EU: Treaty of Amsterdam, Treaty of Nice, Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe, Treaty of Lisbon. Seminars: 1 -establishing treaties of the European Economic Community; 2 - regulations, directives and decisions; 3 - proceedings before European courts; 4 - free movement of goods; 5- free movement of persons and service; 6 - cartels and the abuse of a dominating position; 7 - presentations of seminary works.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to give basic knowledge of European Union law, especially in the area of Community law. The students get to know basic concepts and principles of organizational structure of the European Community and the European Union, legal system and applications of Community law in English.
Students make sense of basic principles of the European Union - why and how the EU was established, how it constitutes and applies law and what is the role of Member States. Listeners understand the basics of the Internal Market, Economic and Monetary Union, Competition, Consumer protection and principles of EU enlargement.
