Course content
Topic areas: 1. Landscape as a pre-scientific concept - the western tradition of the landscape concept, the Czech cultural construct of landscape -Dutch landscape painting and invisible landscape in the background 2. The cultural roots of the landscape concept - the Hebrew roots of the concept, Asian, Australian construct 3. Landscape as a scientific concept, the founding definition of the landscape - Humboldt´s definition and the current definition of the European Landscape Convention, landscape ecology and its declaration of the bridge between the "humanities" and "science" 4. Landscape as an experience and as the object of science - limits of ecology and sociology to explore the landscape 5. Landscape - Inscape - Humanscape - Ethnoscape Concept, photographs and Land-Art. Typology of European landscapes sensu Meeus - tertiary typology - attitude to agricultural land 6. European megatypes and landscape in the CR, demonstrations, differentiation, endangered megatypes. 7. Current changes in the European landscape, rural versus urban cultures, the modern definition of rural areas 8. The forces shaping the landscape in the CR, historical overview, myths about the landscape of the past, the meaning of ecological stability of landscape 9. Forces shaping the landscape in the Czech Republic, historical overview, myths about the landscape of the past, a sense of ecological stability 10. How to appreciate the landcape economically? 11. Planning and development of landscape design in the context of regional and strategic development of the CR and regions. 12. Objectives, outputs, landscape planning, dimensions and characteristics of rural areas in the EU countries with the focus on the CR. 13. Methodological principles of elaborating the landscape plan and its structure elements (text part, analytical and evaluation part, design part and table part). 14. Process of the elaboration of the landscape plan, material and temporal stages -their activities and progress of the elaborating at the local (primary) level - cadastral municipality, microregion. Excercises: (Excursion for KPVK - optional) 1. Example of contrast organically grown city, planned construction - excursion to Český Krumlov, Dolní Třebonín or case of dynamic changes in the landscape - Cetviny 2. The landscape types, spatial and landscape plan - building in České Budějovice. 3. Land-art as a way of designing the landscape around the city - Vodňany 4. For those who is interested - English - landscape changes - Czech Paradise 3-day course - May 4 to 6, together with American and European students. Exercises follow the themes of the lectures and student presentations. Session 1 -calculate ecological stability, KES simulator according to Míchal. 2nd block - Dealing with proposals and recommendations for further development of rural areas in the selected area.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to gain theoretical knowledge about the connectivity of natural, cultural, social and economic components of the landscape in the process of planning and development of rural areas.
Students will learn the parts of landscape plan and practical skills - landscape structure and potential, ecological stability system, calculations of the coefficient of ecological stability, understanding the landscape as a biological as well as a cultural construction, landscape evolution dynamics under anthropogenic pressure - while respecting the protection and landscaping which is perceived as a part of a bio-cultural heritage.

Oral examination, Written examination, Seminar work

Credit requirements: A description of the chosen landscape, for which the knowledge is gradually gained - vegetation zones, calculations KES, landscape types, proposals for changes and theirs KES - all in Moodle. Two absences on seminars are allowed without any confirmation. Credits will be awarded not earlier than 14 days before the end of the semester in accordance with the measure of Dean No. 124/2017 Article 15. Examination Requirements: Written test and oral exam. The examinations will be written 3 weeks before the beginning of the examination period in accordance with the measure of Dean No. 124/2017 Article 15.
