Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. Introduction to regional economy. 2. Regional economic theories. 3. Regional economic structure. 4. Migration as an economic factor, the role of human resources in regional development in terms of quantity and qualification. 5. Regional policy, origin and development of regional policy, administrative and microeconomic instruments of regional policy. 6. Transformation of the Czech economy in the 1990s and its connection with the transformation of the regional economic structure. 7. Effectiveness at the level of municipalities (towns). 8. Spatial planning in the Czech Republic. Exercises: 1. Assignment of seminar work. 2. World economy. 3. CR and EU. 4. Causes and consequences of development of territorial economic and social differentiation. 5. Development potential of regions of the Czech Republic. 6. Defense of seminary works. 7. Defense of seminary works. 8. Defense of seminary works.

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming)

Learning outcomes
The regional economy deals with the socio-economic development of regions and cities. The main part of the course is the analysis of the processes leading to a certain spatial arrangement of the society, the analysis of the economic base of the regions and the possibilities of the influence by the authorities responsible for the development of regions and cities. An important part of the course is the analysis of economic performance and regional competitiveness as important factors of regional development.

Credit Requirements: Attendance at seminars - max. 20% unexcused absence from seminars from the total number of teaching blocks during the semester is acceptable. The condition for admission to the oral examination is elaboration and defense of a seminar paper in the range of 10 pages on a selected topic in the field of regional economy and policy. A list of possible topics will be available at moodle.jcu.cz at the beginning of the semester. Examination Requirements: The exam is written and verifies students' knowledge gained in lectures and exercises in the field of regional economy.
