Learning outcomes
The issue of urban-rural relationships is not entirely a new problem, but in the professional sphere there has been seen an increased interest in this topic in recent years. There has been the concern to promote balanced regional development at both levels, at the EU level and at the level of individual Member States and their regions. With regard to the different settlement structure in the individual EU member states, the urban-rural relations are dealt with different intensities, based on their importance in the territory. In the Czech Republic there is very fragmented settlement structure, which enhances the importance of cities with respect to the concentration of jobs, services etc. The course is specifically focused on the issue of barriers in the urban-rural relations, approaches and potential tools to address this issue.
After successfully completing the course, the students will understand the fundamental issues of urban-rural relations, not only in the Czech Republic but also in the EU countries.
