Course content
Topics of lectures: 1. Introduction to the issue, definition of basic concepts. 2. Small and medium business (SMEs) in the Czech Republic and the EU, motivation to do business. 3. Searching for business opportunities. 4. Experience from business practice (lecture by an expert from practice). 5. Business plan. 6. Starting a business. 7. Financial resources for start-ups. 8. Start-up. 9. Specifics of SME management. 10. Business support in the Czech Republic. 11. Termination of business. 12. Protection of intellectual property (patents, utility and industrial designs). 13. Starting a business in the form of franchising. 14. Current issues of SMEs (lecture by an expert from practice).

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to show the students the specifics and issues of small and medium-sized enterprises. From the very beggining of the company, its management to its ending. Students will get familiar with the business practice, acquire business competencies create and defend a business plan, which will be implemented in practice in the course Firma II.
Students will learn basic terminology related to small and medium enterprises and entrepreneurship. They will have knowledge about the establishment of the company, its management and possible termination. They will be able to write a business plan that will be usible in practice.

Credit requirements: Participation in seminars, credit test, creating and successful defense of the project (business plan). Test requirements: written test, oral exam
