Course content
Content of the subject: 1. Competitiveness and innovation. The concept of competitiveness (competitiveness of products, enterprises, international). Pro-competitive government policy. OECD and EU innovation policy. Innovation as a prerequisite for competitiveness. 2. Change management. Change and innovation. Theory of change. Advanced models of change (ADKAR, Bridge model, Kübler-Ross model, Nudge theory, Maurer model). 3. Innovation. The importance of innovation. Oslo manual. Qualitative aspect of innovation. Expectations from innovation. Methods and tools of innovation management. Contemporary concepts and models of innovation. Prerequisites for successful innovation. Innovation management. 4. Business innovation stratégy. Innovation plans. Innovation project. Start-up strategy for breakthrough innovations. Open innovation strategies. Reverse innovation strategy. Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce the issues of innovation management in the field of theory and practice. The course deals with the connection between competitiveness and the growing importance of innovation in organizations. The course of Innovation Management follows the course of Management and Innovation of the masters study programme. Due to turbulent world and current time of the ever-changing environment of organizations, it is necessary to react flexibly and be able to constantly adapt to the changes. The organizations that want to succeed in such conditions need to be different or at least similar to their competitors and they need to keep responding to new customer requirements. It is a continuous process of innovation and change within the enterprise, ensuring the organization to maintain their competitiveness and to achieve the desired success. Innovative thinking is becoming a key competence of a manager, especially in the period of Industry 4.0. Effective management of the innovation process becomes an indispensable part of the work of managers. The course significantly emphasizes two views on innovation: macroeconomic perspective (concept of competitiveness, support for entrepreneurship and innovation activities, protection of intellectual property) and microeconomic perspective (innovation strategy, innovation process, change management). Attention is also paid to the introduction of basic theoretical innovation approaches (models) and also to provide a basic overview of current and future innovation plans of the economy - Industry 4.0, innovative entrepreneurship and initiative. The students will gain a scientific basis for understanding innovation in a systemic and process context and will also deepen their knowledge and skills in the preparation and effective implementation of innovation. They will learn to create the right innovation strategy, define the innovation process and evaluate it. Students will be able to develop and manage the ability of the organization and team to innovate. By completing the course they will be able to master the theoretical approaches to innovation management, they will understand the importance of innovation for the competitiveness of organizations and economies, they will be able to use modern tools and techniques of innovation management that will effectively manage innovation in organizations, and they will be provided with an overview in areas of change management, innovative business and Industry 4.0
