Course content
Lecture topics: 1. Introduction to issues, definitions, importance, strengths and weaknesses of SMEs 2. Seeking entrepreneurial opportunities. 3. Business plan. 4. Support of entrepreneurship in the Czech Republic. 5. Small and medium-sized enterprises in the Czech Republic and the EU 6. Experience from business practice (lecture by practitioner). 7. Managerial Specifics of SMEs 8. Establishment of a business. 9. Financial resources for start-ups. 10. Start-up. 11. Ending the business. 12. Intellectual property protection (patents, utility and industrial designs). 13. Starting a business by franchising. 14. Current Issues of SMEs (lecture of practitioner)   Exercises: 1. Definition of the subject, introduction to problems, creation of teams 2. Search for business opportunities, brainstorming, basic idea description 3. Introducing a business idea, writing a business. intention 4. Presentation of the business plan 5. Business support 6. Practical experience of entrepreneurs - discussion with the small business owner 7. Business Support - Completion of the task 8. Presentation at JAIP 9. Important administration of entrepreneurs - tax return, overview for health insurance company and ČSSZ 10. Business Environment 11. Discussion with a practitioner 12. Excursion 13. Credit test

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming)

  • Preparation for exam - 28 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The subject concerns managerial approaches in small and middle sized businesses.
Students will acquire basic skills of managers in small and medium-sized enterprises (SME). They will receive also orientation in new approaches in the area of enterpreneurship of these enterprises and in conditions of using programmes of support in small and medium-sized enterprises.

Credit Requirements: attendance - max. 1 absences credit test - pass the test min. to 70% individual seminar work active participation in excursions Exam requirements: test test - pass the test min. to 70% oral exam: knowledge of topics discussed in lectures and exercises accompanied by literature
