Course content
1. Textual linguistics and analysis of discourse as a linguistic discipline 2. Text, textuality criteria, written text vs. speech 3. Syntax and semantics of the text: coherence, cohesion, isotopy 4. Pragmatics of the text; written text and spoken speech 5. Intertextuality, hypertext; the relationship between text and discourse 6. Author, actor, structure 7. The concept of "discourse" in various scientific disciplines, Foucault 8. Linguistic analysis of discourse: premises, approaches, models 9. Discourse analysis on a lexical level 10. Conceptual metaphor (Lakoff / Johnson), language and cognition 11. Argumentation analysis; discourse to the topos 12. Media texts, text and image 13. Text, discourse, corpus 14. Summary

Learning outcomes
The seminar introduces the complex issues of text and discourse. It deals first with the text as a comprehensive linguistic expression and its construction, then with the text as an "open" unit intertwined with other texts and communication expressions. It reflects the relationship between text and discourse and the role of the author of the text and the actor of discourse, more generally focuses on the formation and "negotiation" of meaning during communication interaction and on language as a means of social construction of reality.
Ability to communicate on level B2+/C1.
Prerequisites
German language skills on the level B2+/C1 (CEFR).

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance assessment, Analysis of student's language skills, Seminar work, Interim evaluation

Regular preparation, active presentation of the student at the seminar in the form of oral and written presentation and fulfillment of required tasks on a continuous basis, essay. Participation in seminars and related events is obligatory. The course will be taught in German.
