Course content
1. Introduction 2. Expressionism and literature before Word War I 3. Revolution of arts in literature, painting and music 4. Literature of the early Twenties 5. The Roaring Twenties in german literture 6. German literature of Exile in europe 7. German liteature of exile in the USA ? the second wave of americanisation 8. First steps on the way to german postwar-literature 9. Aesthetical and political revolutions in the sign of ?68? 10. New subjectivism and postmodernity 11. Literature of the so called ?Wende? in 1989 12. Interculturale literatures in germany 13. Recent trends in german literature of the present 14. Balance

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming)
Learning outcomes
Students will learn about continuities and discontinuities in the course of this literature and how it depends on other contexts. There will be also discussed the question of and in which ways literature influenced politics and history of Germany in the 20th century and what its contribution towards recent debates and matters.
The subject provides for competence of distinguishing main developments in german literature from its beginning to the end of 19th century.
Prerequisites
Good abilities in German language (B2-C1).
