Course content
|
1. Hallstatt Period. The history of investigation. Chronology and Periodization of the Hallstatt Period. Basic literature. 2. Subsistence and economy of the Hallstatt Age: production, trade, imports. 3. Social relations in the Hallstatt Age. Ritual activities and sanctuaries. Symbolic world and arts in the Hallstatt Age. 4. The Early Iron Age in South and Eastern Europe (Greeks, Thracians, Illyrians, Etruscans, Scythians). 5. The Early Iron Age in Central Europe (East- and West Hallstatt cultural circle, Lusatian cultural circle). 6. Early Hallstatt Age (Ha C-D1) in Bohemia: main resources, typology of artefacts. 7. Late Hallstatt and Early La Tene Age (Ha D2/3 - LT A) in Bohemia: main resources, typology of artefacts. 8. La Tene Period, the eponymous site, history of investigation. Basic literature. 9. Main archaeological and historical sources. Chronology. Europe in the La Tene Period. 10. Burials in the La Tene Period. 11. Residential components in the La Tene Period, agglomerations, oppida, homesteads. 12. Movable artefacts and agriculture in the La Tene Period. 13. Specialised production in the La Tene Period (metallurgy, glass, coins). 14. Evidences of ritual activities and arts of the La Tene Period.

Learning outcomes
|
Students should acquire basic orientation in periodization and historical development of the Iron Age in Europe and the Czech lands and should familiarize themselves with chronological systems for Hallstatt- and La Tene period, natural resources, production areas and activities, the economy of above mentioned periods, ritual activities and symbology, arts, cultural-historical characteristics to get an overview of particular cultural (basic resources and general characteristics). A continuous check and study of new literature on the Iron Age period.

A knowledge of history on high-school education level.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written examination
Written examination. The presence at the seminars is obligated - the condition for the credits is the presentation of seminar-work and active participation on discussions.
