Course content
1. Outline of basic approaches and methods in FLT. 2. Communicative Approach and contemporary trends in foreign language teaching methodology. 3. FLT textbooks - analysis and evaluation of textbooks. 4. Complementary learning/teaching materials for FLT at secondary schools - analysis, typology, evaluation. 5. Motivation in FLT at secondary schools. Common teaching problems. 6. Basic principles and problems concerning presentation of new content in FLT. 7. Basic principles and problems within the application/ fixation phase of FLT. 8. Basic principles of interaction and effective communication in French language classes. 9. Teaching heterogeneous classes, teaching students with specific learning needs and their evaluation. 10. Evaluation and self-evaluation in FLT. 11. CEFR levels A1 and A2 in ELT. 12. CEFR levels B1 and B2 in ELT. 13. CEFR levels C1 and C2 in ELT.

Learning activities and teaching methods

Learning outcomes
The French Language Teaching Methodology I course provides a practical outline of key principles in French language teaching. Students will learn how to deal with a wide range of teaching/learning situations concerning different stages within the process of French language learning/acquisition which they encounter in the same semester during their teaching practice at a chosen secondary school. Students will acquire basic teaching competences, they will get familiar with a variety of contemporary teaching materials and textbooks, they will learn about the development of basic teaching approaches and methods and they will also gain insight into levels of the CEFR.
Students will acquire basic key competences in FLT with a focus on particular skills linked to different stages of the learning/teaching process. They will get familiar with a wide range of teaching materials and textbooks for the French language, they will learn about the development of basic teaching methods and approaches and they will get acquainted with the levels of CEFR.

Assessment methods and criteria
Colloquium, Seminar work, Interim evaluation

Active participation in classes, successful completion of the final colloquium, ongoing completion of practical tasks, written preparation for one lesson teaching comprising a methodological commentary and self-assessment following the experience from the teaching practice, written analysis and evaluation of a chosen FL textbook for secondary schools.
