The seminars introduce students to the current linguistic, political, economic, and cultural situation in Hispanic countries. Through the analysis of selected realia, students will acquire the knowledge necessary to recognize problematic social phenomena in the socioculturally and geopolitically diverse Hispanic context. The course promotes the development of critical thinking and an open approach to solving sensitive issues, while respecting plurality of opinion. Specific problems of the target cultures are contrasted with comparable aspects of the home culture to prevent uncritical one-sidedness. By completing the course, students will acquire the necessary equipment for effective intercultural communication and teaching or translation practice.
The student will have knowledge of the basic linguistic, political, economic, and cultural situation of the Hispanic world, use it in teaching, translation, business, or other professional practice, and transfer it to other target groups. Learning outcomes: (a) Students will identify and describe the main linguistic, cultural, political, and social characteristics of the Hispanic world. (b) Students explain the influence and contribution of native languages and cultures to the formation of Spanish language and Hispanic identity. (c) Students critically analyze social issues in the target culture and compare them with issues in their own culture. (d) Students will relate current phenomena such as globalization, migration, multiculturalism, human rights, and environmental protection to specific realia of the Hispanic world. (e) Students will communicate their ideas about complex social phenomena in the Hispanic world clearly and informedly, both in speaking and in writing.
