Course content
1. History of the Prague linguistic circle. 2. The most important personalities of the Prague linguistic school. 3. Prague functional structuralism - main principals. 4. Concepts - "system", "structure", "function". 5. The Prague theory of synchrony and diachrony, "elastic stability", therapeutic changes. 6. Prague phonology. 7. Norm, usage, codification - Prague theory of the standard language culture. 8. Functional sentence perspective and thematic progressions. 9. Centre and periphery in the language system. 10. Typology. 11. Functional generative approach. 12. Prague structuralism and literary science. 13. Reception of Prague theories throughout the wolrd.

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Work with text (with textbook, with book)
Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to acquaint students with the Prague school theories and with its contribution to the world linguistics. Historical and political aspects of creation and activities of the Prague linguistic circle will also be mentioned.
Student will acquire an outline of main Prague school theories.

Oral examination
