Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce the basic topics of lexicology and semantics with respect to the specifics of the Spanish language. The lectures are designed to introduce students to the theoretical background of the observed phenomena, which are then analyzed in seminars. In this way, students gain a theoretical insight into semantics and lexicology. At the same time, through rich linguistic material, students are guided to deepen the lexical competence of the foreign language user.
- The student will explain the basic concepts of lexicology and semantics and apply them to specific linguistic material. - The student will perform a basic semantic-lexical analysis of an authentic Spanish text. - The student will identify and explain semantic relationships in contemporary Spanish vocabulary.
Prerequisites
No special prerequisites.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination, Interim evaluation

To successfully complete this subject, it is necessary to meet the following conditions: 1. Regular attendance at seminars. A maximum of 3 absences allowed. 2. Active participation in class, engaging in discussion of the analyzed examples. 3. Individual continuous preparation and completion of independent assignments in Moodle. The results of the completed assignments will be counted towards the final grade (further specified in Moodle). 4. The final exam verifies the knowledge of the acquired knowledge and the application of the acquired knowledge to specific language material (written test). Students who are enrolled in a course for a second time do not have to attend lectures and seminars again, especially if the course overlaps with another course. However, I strongly recommend that you follow the content updates for the academic year and keep up with the assignments given in the seminars. All students may take advantage of tutorial sessions to clarify any ambiguities in the material covered in lectures and seminars. Dates of credits and examinations will be announced in the examination period according to the JU Faculty of Arts timetable. Requirements for JU students participating in the Erasmus+ programme (learning mobility or internship), for whom this course cannot be recognised as another course taken at a foreign university: 1) Self-study of the material covered in class, including the completion of all assignments given in the Moodle system. 2) Final examination after returning from the placement/internship (within the deadline set by the timetable for the given AR).
