Course content
1.-2. The verb and its morphological, semantic and formal properties. Grammatical categories of the Spanish verba finita. The system of verb tenses and modes. 3. Morphology of the Spanish verb: presente de indicativo (hablo). Regular and irregular forms, central and peripheral functions. 4. Morphology of the Spanish verb: pretérito / imperfecto de indicativo (hablé / hablaba). Regular and irregular forms, central and peripheral functions. 5. Morphology of the Spanish verb: futuro simple / condicional simple (hablaré / hablaría). Regular and irregular forms, central and peripheral functions. 6.-7. Morphology of the Spanish verb: compound tenses. Central and peripheral functions. 8.-9. Categories of manner: imperative manner. Regular and irregular forms, uses. 10. Category of manner: subjunctive. Regular and irregular forms, uses. 11. Impersonal verb forms (infinitive, gerundium, participle). Regular and irregular forms, uses. 12. Categories of gender: active, past, medial. 13. Descriptive verb conjugations.

Learning outcomes
This course provides a comprehensive overview of the functioning of the Spanish grammatical system with a major emphasis on the inflectional morphology of verbs, including the necessary syntax basics. The course includes hypothesis testing through work with corpus tools (CREA, CORPES XXI).
- The student will recognize the grammatical categories of all inflected verb forms in Spanish, name them, and identify them in a text. - The student will form the appropriate verb forms. - The student will find examples of the verb forms covered in the course in a language corpus.
Prerequisites
The course assumes knowledge of the Spanish language at least at level B1 The advantage is the previous completion of the course Morphosyntax 1 and knowledge of basic linguistic terminology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Test, Seminar work, Interim evaluation

1. Regular attendance (3 absences allowed). 2. Active participation in the seminar. Active participation does not only mean that the student is physically present in the seminar, but also that they prepare for classes on an ongoing basis and submit assigned tasks. If a student is repeatedly unprepared for the seminar, they may be excluded from the class without their attendance being counted. 3. Completion and submission of seminar assignments. More detailed information about seminar assignments can be found in Moodle. 4. Credit test - the student has 2 attempts (1 regular and 1 remedial) Students can use the consultation hours to clarify any ambiguities in the material covered in lectures and seminars. Dates of credits and examinations will be announced in the examination period according to the JU Faculty of Arts timetable. Requirements for students UBS participating in the Erasmus+ programme (teaching mobility or internship): 1) Self-study of the material discussed in class including the completion of all tasks set in the Moodle system. 2) Completion of a credit test upon return from the placement/internship (within the deadline set by the timetable for the AR). 3) Submission of the seminar paper.
