Learning outcomes
The subject acquaints students with basic characters, trends and texts of art history of the 20th and 21st century. The focus is on Anglo-American theoretical texts for art history in the second half of the 20th century, complemented by key figures in German and French art history. The course will also explain the influence of other culturally oriented disciplines on the history of art. The course is based on current handbooks and personal experience from the history of art at Oxford University. The basic syllabus of the course (selected writings according to the handbook by J. Kroupa) will be supplemented by a selection of texts for critical reading, which will include texts from methodology and new approaches in the history of art and visual culture. The aim is to show the variety of contemporary discourse on art.
Students will acquire knowledge of contemporary approaches to the interpretation of works of art and cultural theories.
