The course will introduce the students into the world of antique art. It comprises creative arts of the Bronze Age cultures (Aegean and Mycenaean Art), Etruscans, Ancient Greece and Rome, including Christian Antiquity and beginnings of Byzantine Art up to the 10th century. The classical narrative of the formation of the European art will be confronted with new findings. In the seminar we will focus on reading the original texts of ancient authors (Antique Library).
The subject acquaints students with the basics of old European art as a basis of European culture and thinking about art. |
