Course content
1. Introduction - literature, archaeology, teminology and chronology 2. Aegean art - Cycladic and Cretan art 3. Aegean art - mainland Greece (Mycenaen) 4. Antique Greece I - early period 5. Antique Greece II - classical period 6. Antique Greece - helenism 7. Etruscans 8. Early Rome and the Roman republic 9. Art under Augustus and claudian dynasty 10. Imperial art of Rome I - Traian 11. Imperial art of Rome II - Constantine 12. Christian Antiquity 13. Early byzantine art 14. Early medieval art and the heritage of Antiquity (6-10. centuries)

Learning outcomes
The course will introduce the students into the world of antique art. It comprises creative arts of the Bronze Age cultures (Aegean and Mycenaean Art), Etruscans, Ancient Greece and Rome, including Christian Antiquity and beginnings of Byzantine Art up to the 10th century. The classical narrative of the formation of the European art will be confronted with new findings. In the seminar we will focus on reading the original texts of ancient authors (Antique Library).
The subject acquaints students with the basics of old European art as a basis of European culture and thinking about art.
