Course content
|
The first semester will focus on the following topics and techniques within Units 1-4: Grammar: present simple x present continuous, expressing habits in the present and in the past, verb patterns, present perfect x past simple, past simple x past continuous, articles, as x like Vocabulary: free time activities, family relationships, emotions and feelings, things that matter, forces of nature Listening: multiple matching, multiple choice, sentence completion Speaking: asking and answering questions in an interview, agreeing and disagreeing, comparing, speculating, contrasting ranking Reading: gapped text, multiple matching, multiple choice Writing: formal x informal email, writing an essay I - using linkers for contrast, writing an essay II - expressing and supporting ideas

Learning outcomes
|
In the course of the first three semesters of Practical English, the students will gradually and systematically build up their communicative competence in the target language to reach level B2 according to the CEFR. This practically oriented course aims at consolidating grammar and vocabulary and developing the four skills. The course is co-taught by a Czech teacher and a native speaker.

Oral examination, Essay, Student performance assessment, Analysis of student's language skills, Test
All examinations and consultations are held in English. Active participation. A paper on reflecting one's own foreign language learning. A written test with a focus on grammar and vocabulary. A speaking project. An oral exam.
