Course content
|
The third semester will focus on the following topics and techniques within Units 9-12: Grammar: conditionals; linking words; participles; hypothetical meaning; obligation, prohibition and necessity; reflexive pronouns; have/got something done Vocabulary: word building; success and failure; personality; phrasal verbs; adjectives and verbs with prepositions; cybercrime; shopping online Listening: multiple matching (my closest friend); multiple choice (media extracts; luck in sport); sentence completion (prison hotels) Speaking: comparing and giving a reaction; giving opinions; stating preferences and speculating; agreeing and disagreeing Reading: gapped text, multiple matching, multiple choice Writing: essay; article; report; review

Learning outcomes
|
In the course of the first three semesters of Practical English, the students will gradually and systematically build up their communicative competence in the target language to reach level B2 according to the CEFR. This practically oriented course aims at consolidating grammar and vocabulary and developing the four skills. The course is co-taught by a Czech teacher and a native speaker.

All examinations and consultations are held in English. Active participation. A written test with a focus on grammar and vocabulary. An essay.
