1. Present and past (present continuous, present simple, past simple, past continuous). 2. Present perfect and past (present perfect, present perfect continuous, past perfect, past perfect continuous, used to do). 3. Future (present tenses for the future, I'm going to do, will/shall, will be doing and will have done, when I do/when I've done). 4. Modals (can could, be able to, could/could (have) done, must/can't, may/might, must/have to, must-mustn't-needn't, should. 5. Conditionals and wish. 6. Passive. 7. Direct and indirect speech. 8. Questions and auxiliary verbs. 9. -ing forms and the infinitive

Learning outcomes
|
The course focuses on the differences between the English and Czech grammar systems on all linguistic levels - morphological, syntactic, lexical and stylistic. The emphasis is put on the practical acquisition of the following linguistic phenomena: Finite Verb-Forms, Non-Finite Verb Forms, Tenses, Simple Form, Progressive Form, Active Voice, Passive Voice, Moods, Auxiliary Verbs, Modal Verbs, Verb Patterns, Questions and Question-tags. The Seminar focuses on practical presentation of the grammatical structures on authentic texts and real-life situations. Grammar is practised in a wide range of activities such as games, discussions and problem solving.
Use grammar correctly in spoken and written form of communication while teaching English and in everyday communication.

Prerequisites

Basic ability to read grammar texts in English.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student portfolio analysis, Test
All examinations and consultations are held in English. A written test with a 70% passmark, attendance 70%. Starting a portfolio of ELT activities, games and exercises focusing on the English verb.
