Course content
|
Lexicology as a field of research, the basic terms, bibliography; lexicography, dictionaries, various types of dictionary, onomasiological and semasiological dictionaries; the notion of word, lexical semantics; neology; semantic change, semasiological-onomasiological derivation; specialisation, generalisation, lexical metonymy, lexical metaphor, folk etymology; phraseologisms, their characteristics and classification; the changing classification, the changing language; the lexicon as a whole; paradigmatic relations between lexical units.

Learning outcomes
|
Lexicology as a field of research; its division; basic terminology; literature. Vocabulary as a whole. The word as a concept; the word as a sign; the meaning; the components of the meaning of autosemantic words; lexical onomasiology. Paradigmatic relations between lexical units. Lexical semasiology.
The aim of this course is to equip students with the essential theoretical knowledge of Czech lexical system and to develop skills necessary for the lexical analysis of a text, considering current lexical trends as well.
