Course content
1. Geography as a scientific discipline 2. The position of geography in science systems 3. Inner structure of geography 4. Geography and its relation with other disciplines 5. Geographical thought - Antiquity 6. Geographical thought - the Middle Ages and Modern times 7. Geographical thought - 19th and 20th century 8. The development of Czech geography 9. Main theoretical concepts in current geography - space and place 10. Main theoretical concepts in current geography - region and regionalisation 11. Main theoretical concepts in current geography - landscape 12. Main geographical data sources 13. The principles of scientific work in geography 14. Scientific literature review

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming)
Learning outcomes
The course is focused on theoretical geography and basic scientific methods in geographical research. The main topics are geographical thinking; the structure of geography and its position in systems of sciences; basic scientific methods in geographical research; searching and using literature.
Basic orientation in theoretical geography, understanding of basic terms in geography, knowldge of particular sub-disciplines of physical and human geography

Written examination

Work up quotation and annotation articles on engaged subject, will get structure potential diploma work.
