Course content
1. The development of population and population prognosis, 2. Spatial distribution of words population, 3. Dynamics of pouplation spatial mobility, 4. Synthetic evaluation of population dynamics, 5. Population structures sex, age and language, 6. Population stuctures ethnic, social and economic, 7. Complex analysis of particular settlements, mainly urban settlements, 8. Anaylsis of urban areas and settlement systems, 9. Relations between settlement units and landscape, 10. Urban rural relation (urbanization, suburbanization, agglomerations), 11. Analysis and modelling of settlement networks, 12. Formation of urban regional structures, 13. Basic features of population and settlement world and Czech Republic, 14. Application of settlement-geographical methods in the Czech Republic.

Learning outcomes
The course serves as a introduction to the study of human geography. The lectures are aimed on the basics of population geography, demography, and settlement geography in a broader human-geographical perspectives. The main issues: spatial distribution of population in the Earth, spatial mobility of population (migration, commuting etc.). The second part is focused on the settlement geography (urban geography, rural settlement geography etc.)
Students will be able to understand the basic processes in the population and settlement geography

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam

Students will make a few seminar projects and essays.
