1. Classicism - origin and early evolution 2. High Classicism, W. A. Mozart 3. Style completing in work of L. van Beethoven 4. Czech composers of Classicism 5. Musical expression or Romanticism, periodization, theme and aesthetical context 6. Musical forms of Early Romanticism - romantic song and piano composition 7. Symphonic music of Early and High Romanticism (change of symphonic music after Beethoven, programme symphony, F. Schubert, F. Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, H. Berlioz) 8. Symphonic music of Early and High Romanticism - continuation (concert prelude and symphonic poem, F. Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, F. Liszt, classical and romantic synthesis of J. Brahms, questions of progarmme and absolute music) 9. Romantic opera in Germany and in France, Wagner´s opera reform 10. Opera in Italy within 19th century (Rossinists, G. Verdi) 11. Czech music of 19th century (evolution specifics of Czech music, B. Smetana) 12. Czech music of 19th century - continuation (A. Dvořák, Z. Fibich) 13. Russian music of 19th century; music on turn of 19th and 20th century (impressionism) 14. Music on turn of 19th and 20th century (veristic opera, A. Bruckner, G. Mahler, R. Strauss)

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Demonstration
Learning outcomes
Lectures focus on style evolution of classical (artificial) European music from second half of 18th century until the end of 19th century including basic information of important composition personalities. Student should be able to class gained information into general historical and cultural context after this course and orientate himself in European music events within selected period.
Knowledge of the most important evolutional tendencies and personalities of classical European music.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of music history at the level of Music history I

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

Student will prove basic overview of music history of selected period by form of oral exam.
