Course content
1. Aesthetical and thought basis of music of 20th century, music founders of 20th century 2. Paris as a music center of the first half of 20th century (E. Satie, Parisian six, Arthur Honegger) 3. Composition of Igor Stravinský as an original synthesis of compositional movements of 20th century 4. Neo-folklorism in central and eastern Europe 5. Soviet music of the first half of 20th century 6. American music of the first half of 20th century 7. German music of the first half of 20th century, II. Viennese school (New eternity, Paul Hindemith, expressionism, dodecaphony principles, Arnold Schönberg) 8. II. Viennese school - continuation (Alban Berg, Anton Webern) 9. Founders of Czech music of 20th century (Vítězslav Novák, Josef Suk) 10. Founders of Czech music of 20th century - contination (Leoš Janáček, Bohuslav Martinů) 11. Learning outcomes
Lectures give basic information of the most important tendencies in evolution of Czech and world artificial music of 20th century. Student should be able to class gained information into general historical and cultural context after this course and orientate himself in music events within selected period.
Knowledge of the main music movements and tendencies of Czech and Euro-American artificial music of first half of 20th century.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of music history at the level of Music history II.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

Student will prove basic overview of music history of selected period by form of oral exam. The exam is preceded by an auditory test in which the student has to identify selected compositions or more generaly identify the compositional style and genre.
