Course content
1. Introduction to the seminar, requirements, methods, course, assessment criteria and examination conditions 2.-3. General introduction to the topic of writing and the unit Problemerörterung 4.-6. Independent, partner and plenary work on the topic developed in the first homework text 7.-9. Independent, partner and plenary work on the topic developed in the second homework text 10.-11. Independent, partner and plenary work on the topic developed in the third homework text (or a mock exam text if desired) 12. Final written examination 13. joint analysis of the final written examination

Learning outcomes
This seminar is designed to prepare students intensively for the final written state examination. The seminars are held in German. In order to be successful in the exam, the main focus will be on practising the essay unit Problemerörterung. Part of the preparation includes working with errors and the resulting repetition of grammar, vocabulary and style. Other text units can be practised on request.
Upon completion of the course, students are able to write a coherent text in German of at least 400 words at language level C1 according to the SERR. They are able to identify, correct and analyse linguistic errors that may occur in students' written work at language level A1 - B1.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination, Essay

The student may not be absent from class more than three times per semester without an excuse; he/she must write at least three problem papers (Problemerörterung, the last one on request as a practice text about one month before the final exam date) as homework. The grade for the written examination (problem essay, min. 500 words, choice of one of two topics, one of which is related to school and education) is also the grade for the written part of the final state examination. The examination for the subject is conducted in German.
