Learning outcomes
Students will be familiar with the main periods of German language development, focusing on all basic language subsystems (phonetic-phonological, grammatical and lexical). Based on the newly acquired knowledge about the historical changes of German, the students focus on contemporary German and the basic tendencies in its development. Students will connect the diachronic view of the language with the synchronous one, which in their teaching has so far prevailed. Teaching is held in German.
Students will understand the basic principles of the historical development of contemporary German. They realize that language is not a static entity, but an ever-evolving, complicated, subtle, unique, and highly functional communication system. They will better understand contemporary German and some otherwise incomprehensible exceptions. They are able to identify the basic tendencies in the development of contemporary German and thus gain an overview of the topics on which he should focus in further education. Due to the fact that the development of the language is continuous, the German teacher must constantly be educated in this regard in order to communicate current and lively German to his future learners.
Prerequisites
A good knowledge of the Grammar of the contemporary German.
